Have you ever wondered which words to learn? Most learners struggle to understand conversations of native speakers. To understand conversations learners need to have a decent vocabularly. But the problem is which topic areas should they concentrate on? The wonderful reference book lists the top 10,000 most frequent words in Russian conversation gathered by research completed by the London University Slavonic Studies faculty. As a learner, you could start learning the top 500 words and once you've master those, take on the next 500 words etc. If you could learn the top 1000 words then you'll going to have a good chance of understanding a big proportion of conversations. The first 600 words in the book has an example of usage for each word.
